Article Processing Charges

The Indonesian Journal of Feminist Legal Studies (IJFLS) adopts an Article Processing Charge (APC) policy to support the sustainability of its scholarly publishing activities and to maintain the quality, accessibility, and integrity of the journal. As an open access journal, IJFLS provides free access to published articles while requiring an APC from authors whose manuscripts have successfully completed the peer-review process and have been accepted for publication.

The APC is intended to support the costs associated with the complete publication process, including editorial management, peer-review administration, manuscript preparation, digital publication, online platform maintenance, preservation, and dissemination of scholarly works.

Article Processing Charge Amount

The APC for each accepted article published in The Indonesian Journal of Feminist Legal Studies (IJFLS) is:

IDR 3,000,000 (three million Indonesian Rupiah)

or its equivalent amount in:

United States Dollars (USD) based on the applicable exchange rate at the time of payment.

The final amount payable in USD may vary depending on currency exchange fluctuations. Authors will receive official payment instructions from the Editorial Office after the manuscript has been accepted for publication.

When the APC is Charged

IJFLS applies a transparent APC policy in which:

  • No submission fee is charged at the time of manuscript submission;

  • No payment is required during the initial editorial screening process;

  • No payment is required during the peer-review process;

  • APC is charged only after the manuscript has received final acceptance for publication.

The APC payment request is issued only after the Editor has confirmed that the manuscript meets the journal's academic, ethical, and editorial requirements.

The payment of APC does not guarantee acceptance, and editorial decisions are made independently based on scholarly quality, originality, relevance, research integrity, and peer-review outcomes.

Purpose of the Article Processing Charge

The APC supports the operational sustainability of IJFLS and contributes to maintaining a professional publishing environment. The collected fees are used to support activities including:

1. Editorial and Peer Review Management

  • Management of manuscript submissions;

  • Coordination between authors, editors, and reviewers;

  • Administration of the double-blind peer-review process;

  • Maintenance of editorial quality control procedures.

2. Manuscript Preparation and Production

  • Professional copyediting and proofreading processes;

  • Layout and formatting preparation;

  • Digital conversion and publication of articles;

  • Quality control before final publication.

3. Online Publishing and Infrastructure

  • Maintenance and improvement of the journal website and Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform;

  • Digital accessibility and article dissemination;

  • Metadata management to support discoverability and indexing;

  • DOI registration and scholarly communication services, where applicable.

4. Digital Preservation and Archiving

  • Long-term preservation of published articles;

  • Maintenance of digital publication records;

  • Support for reliable access to published research materials.

5. Journal Development and Visibility

  • Improvement of editorial systems and publishing standards;

  • Development of academic networks and collaborations;

  • Promotion and dissemination of published research.

APC and Editorial Independence

IJFLS strictly maintains the independence of editorial decisions. The payment or non-payment of APC does not influence:

  • The acceptance or rejection of manuscripts;

  • The outcome of peer-review evaluations;

  • The editorial decision-making process.

All manuscripts are evaluated based on academic merit, compliance with ethical standards, relevance to the journal's scope, originality, and contribution to feminist legal scholarship.

The journal follows the principle that financial considerations must never compromise academic quality, fairness, transparency, or research integrity.

Payment Procedure

After acceptance, authors will receive an official APC invoice or payment notification from the Editorial Office containing:

  • The APC amount;

  • Payment instructions;

  • Available payment methods;

  • Payment deadline;

  • Required confirmation documents.

Authors are expected to complete payment within the specified period to allow the article to proceed to the final publication stage.

Failure to complete APC payment within the agreed timeframe may result in delays in publication. Authors experiencing difficulties in completing payment are encouraged to contact the Editorial Office to discuss possible arrangements.

APC Waiver and Discount Policy

IJFLS is committed to supporting inclusive scholarly communication and recognizes that authors may face financial limitations. Therefore, the journal may provide APC waivers or discounts in exceptional circumstances.

Authors may request an APC waiver or reduction based on factors including:

  • Significant financial constraints;

  • Lack of institutional or research funding support;

  • Special circumstances affecting the author's ability to pay.

Requests must be submitted to the Editorial Office with a reasonable explanation before publication. Each request will be evaluated individually by the journal management.

The availability of an APC waiver or discount does not affect the fairness of manuscript evaluation. All manuscripts undergo the same editorial screening and peer-review process regardless of APC status.

Institutional and Research Funding Support

Authors who receive research funding, institutional support, or project-based grants are encouraged to use available funding sources to cover APC costs where applicable.

Authors should disclose relevant funding information during manuscript submission in accordance with the journal's publication ethics requirements.

Transparency of Publication Fees

IJFLS is committed to providing clear and transparent information regarding publication charges. The APC amount, payment procedures, and applicable policies are publicly available to ensure that authors can make informed decisions before submitting manuscripts.

The journal does not impose hidden fees, mandatory additional charges, or publication-related costs beyond the stated APC unless explicitly communicated and agreed upon.
